September 26-28 . New Westminster, BC
BRIDGING THE RURAL-URBAN DIVIDE
Join us for the BC-hosted, Canadian Farm Writers' Federation annual conference September 26 to 28 2019 as we Bridge the Urban-Rural Divide. We promise a jam-packed, yet BC kinda laid-back event. From the opening reception boat cruise (right outside the conference hotel doors) to tours of BC’s rural and urban agriculture, thought-provoking professional development including a look at mental wellness and the annual CFWF awards banquet and dance, this will be a CFWF national gathering you don’t want to miss! Oh ya, we’re also a hotbed of wine, craft brewing and cannabis production to help your networking and R&R.
Early bird registration is open until August 1, 2019: $225 for members and $275 for non-members. This full-conference registration includes Thursday’s opening reception (for the first 100 registrants only since boat capacity is limited), one of three tours on Friday, Saturday’s professional development day and all Saturday meals including the annual CFWF awards banquet. Finer points are still being worked out and will be posted as we have them.
Join us early to participate in one of two pre-tours:
The Sea to Sky tour will take the amazing scenic drive to Whistler for views of water, mountains, green vistas and more. This tour includes transportation from the hotel, the Sea to Sky gondola ride and plenty of time to explore Whistler's world-famous village. $100
The Farm and Fowl tour will explore local bird migration patterns and a guided walking tour of the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary with an expert from the Delta Farmland and Wildlife Trust. Lunch is included in this tour filled with information and beauty. $75
Choose from an exploration of greenhouse growing, including cannabis; Urban farms along the Fraser River; or a look inside the operations of a working grain terminal and the Port of Vancouver.
Saturday's pro-D Day will focus on two key topics making the news on a near daily basis: BC's Agricultural Land Commission - how it works, who's involved and future plans and a look into mental health both as a personal situation and that of the farmers writers speak to and write about.
